About the Artist: Marqiato
Born in Toronto and raised in Stoney Creek, Canada, Marqiato is a contemporary artist whose work presents a fusion of abstraction, minimalism, and expressionism.
Rooted in curiosity and driven by relentless experimentation, his art explores themes of identity, emotion, and human connection. Primarily working with acrylics, he also incorporates other mediums such as oil, fabrics, and aerosols.
Marqiato has been a professional soccer player for over a decade, a career that has taken him across the globe. Living in European cities like Berlin, Vienna, and Rome introduced him to diverse cultures and perspectives.
This duality—between the discipline of sport and the freedom and intuition of art—shapes his unique approach to creation. Each piece reflects his deep appreciation for motion, balance, energy, and the tension between chaos and control.
The name Marqiato comes from the Italian marchiato, meaning “branded” or “marked”—an ode to the large port-wine stain birthmark covering the left side of his upper body.
